WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY
Philadelphia, Pa. (2/10/14) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team lost a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game to host, Holy Family University, 74-57, in a game played this afternoon in the Campus Center.
Following the contest, the Lady Chargers drop to 9-11 overall and 6-5 in conference play, while the Tigers improve to 19-5 overall and 9-3 in the CACC.
Dominican opened the game on a 6-2 run, but HFU rallied and would outscore DUNY by 11 points in both the first and second quarters to hold a 49-27 edge at the intermission. The Lady Chargers cut the deficit to four points in the first quarter (10-14) but a 7-0 Tiger run to close the period built a 21-10 advantage and they would never relinquish the lead for the rest of the game.
Holy Family outrebounded the Lady Chargers 48-27, while DUNY recorded 14 turnovers to the Tigers 23. Dominican also shot better from the charity stripe, going 9-12 (75%) to HFU's 9-15 (60%).
Sophomore Cayla Howard (Nagatuck, Conn.) led two players in double figures with 22 points, five rebounds and two steals.
Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 15 points and pulled down a team best nine boards, two assists and two blocks, while Tanasha Mills (New City, N.Y.) tallied eight points and five assists.
Graduate student Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) dished out a game best seven assists in the loss.
Up next for the Lady Chargers is a road non-conference game at Molloy University on Monday evening.
