RALLY FALLS SHORT AS DOMINICAN FALTERS IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION
Rockville Centre, N.Y. (2/12/24) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team fell short this evening as they suffered a 66-60, loss to host, Molloy University, in non-conference action played in Quealy Gymnasium.
The win leads the Lions to a 10-12 overall record, while the Lady Chargers fall to 9-13 on the seaon.
The first quarter saw the Lions quickly take a 9-0 lead, but four straight points by DUNY made the score 9-4 midway through the period. A 13-6 Molloy run rebuilt a 22-10 lead heading into the second frame.
A strong defensive performance by Molloy, allowing just nine red and black points, in the second quarter extended their lead to 34-19 at the break.
Trailing by 13 points (39-52) at the start of the fourth quarter, the Lady Chargers used a 14-4 run to cut the deficit to just four points (53-57) with 3:26 left in the game. Later Angelina DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y.) hit a trey with 26 ticks left on the clock to make the score, 64-60, but forced to foul the Lions closed out the scoring with two free throws for the final 66-60 score.
Senior Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led two players in double figures with the game's only double-double of 20 points and 16 rebounds, while adding four assists, three steals and two blocks.
Tanasha Mills (New City, N.Y.) added 11 points and eight assists, while Tamia Nunes (Worcester, Mass.) and Cayla Howard (Nagatuck, Conn.) netted eight points a-piece in the loss.
Guard Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) contributed five assists, four points and four rebounds.
