TIGERS SNAP WOMEN'S LACROSSE WIN STREAK
Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/20/13) The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team snapped the Lady Chargers winning streak after defeating DC, 12-10, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played at the DC Lacrosse Field. With the loss Dominican fall to 7-6 overall and 7-3 in the CACC, while Holy Family improves to 11-5 overall and 8-2 in the conference.

Sophomore Gina Sparaco (Freeport, N.Y.) led the Lady Chargers with three goals, while attacker Allison Smithwick (Commack, N.Y.) tallied two goals.
Freshman goalie Brittany Kiernan (Clarkstown, N.Y.) made 11 saves in the loss.
The first half saw the majority of the scoring as a total of 15 goals were scored. The Tigers struck first, but Sparaco tied the game less than a minute later. Both teams then went on a 2-0 run to make the score 3-3, before HFU recorded back-to-back goals to take a 5-3 lead with 16:05 remaining in the first half. From there the Tigers closed out the half, outscoring the Lady Chargers 5-2 for the 10-5 advantage at the break.
Freshman Kelly Barbarite (Smithtown, N.Y.) started the scoring in the second half with her 13th goal of the season, but the Tigers came right back with a goal to regain a five goal lead, 11-6. A 2-0 Lady Charger run with goals from Amanda Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.) and Smithwick cut the deficit to 11-8 with 14:10 on the clock.
After a Tiger goal, the Lady Chargers added two more goals from Emily Murray (Oakdale, N.Y.) and Sparaco to make the score 12-10 with just over ten minutes remaining and the Tigers held on for the 12-10 victory.
Before the game the team honored seniors: #5 Whitney Ranger, #14 Elizabeth Schmidt*, #17 Brianna Blank, #19 Rachel Romanowski, #23 Michelle Fiorvanti and manager Dominique Labate.
