Lakewood, N.J. (3/22/14) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team fell in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action this afternoon to host, Georgian Court University, 13-9, in a game played at Georgian Court University.
Dominican never led in the contest as GCU scored the first three goals and held a 9-5 lead at halftime. Both teams scored four goals each in the second half for the final 13-9.
The Lady Chargers got on the scoreboard with 22:20 remaining in the first half when junior attacker Allison Smithwick (Commack, N.Y.) netted her first of two team goals off the assist from Kelly Barbarite (Smithtown, N.Y.).
Sophomore Christina Brennan (Washington Township, N.J.) made the score 5-2 with just over 15 minutes left in the half on a free position shot and Traci-Joan Muniz* (Middlesex, N.J.) followed with a free position goal with 8:55 on the clock to cut the deficit to 6-3.
Smithwick and Brennan ended the first half scoring for DC with goals, with Smithwick assisting on Brennan's goal.
Midfielder Emily Murray (Oakdale, N.Y.) opened up second half scoring for Dominican as she scored back-to-back goals as Barbrite assisted on the second to make the score 11-7 with 18:40 on the clock.
Dominican scored the last two goals of the game as freshman Shayne Gallagher (Blauvelt, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal and Barbrite followed after the pass from Smithwick for the final 13-9 score.
Sophomore Brittany Kiernan (Clarkstown, N.Y.) made 11 saves in the loss.
DC is now 0-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Lady Chargers will travel to Holy Family University on Tuesday.
