TWO LADY CHARGERS NAMED TO CACC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

New Haven, Conn. (5/31/17)  Thirty-five (35) student-athletes on Wednesday were named to the 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Lacrosse All-Academic Team, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. All 10 schools that sponsor the sport at the varsity level had at least one student-athlete qualify for the academic squad.

Dominican College's Aileen Burke (Pearl River, N.Y.) and Cara Moran (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) both make their first appearance on the CACC All-Academic Team.

To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, a student-athletes must meet the following criteria: a) minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 at the end of the immediate preceding term; b) minimum of two semesters enrolled as full-time student at member institution; c) student-athlete must be second year student-athlete at member institution; and d) student-athlete must have been athletically eligible the season preceding the award and used a season of eligibility.

Chestnut Hill College led the way with nine honorees on the list, including junior Hunter Leckonby, who posted a perfect cumulative grade point average of 4.00 in her major of psychology. Three Griffins earned a spot on the All-Academic Team for the third time in their careers, including Samantha Herron (Sr., 3.83, education), Katie Joe Lang (Sr., 3.83, psychology) and Jacklyn O'Leary (Sr., 3.74, accounting).

Georgian Court University -- the 2017 CACC Women's Lacrosse Championship -- and Wilmington University followed with five honorees apiece on the team. Taylor Bauerband led all Lions on the list with a 3.82 GPA (business administration), while WilmU's top GPA on the squad was Christina Ziegler's 3.67 (middle level education: 6-8).

Seven student-athletes who earned all-conference or major award status in 2017 were placed on the CACC All-Academic Team. Caldwell University's Rachel Lucia (So., 3.73, biology) was named the 2017 CACC Defensive Player of the Year, while also earning a spot on the All-CACC First Team. Lucia's teammate Amanda Timmes also earned first-team all-league status, while landing on the academic team with a 3.69 GPA in mathematics. Other all-conference honorees to achieve All-Academic status included Bauerband, O'Leary, Katie Gallivan (Philadelphia University, So., 3.90, health sciences), Lisa Milburn (GCU, So., 3.79, psychology/early education) and Amber Neumann (GCU, So., 3.79, math/education).

Five student-athletes on the CACC All-Academic Team posted GPAs of 3.90 or higher, including Leckonby, Gallivan, Kaitlin Iavecchia (CHC, So., 3.97, education), Joanna Mamie (Holy Family University, So., 3.93, nursing) and Emily Sigmon (Nyack College, Sr., 3.94, pastoral ministry).

Six student-athletes made the squad for the third time in their impressive careers, while 11 more made the team for the second time. That total of 17 repeat honorees represents 49 percent of the 2017 CACC Women's Lacrosse All-Academic Team.
