WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO JEFFERSON
Hillburn, N.Y. (4/16/18) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team fell to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent, Jefferson, 25-11, in a game played this afternoon at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
Hillburn, N.Y. (4/16/18) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team fell to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent, Jefferson, 25-11, in a game played this afternoon at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
With the loss, Dominican falls to 6-7 overall and 5-2 in conference play while the Rams improve to 7-7 overall and 6-1 in the CACC.
Jefferson began the scoring with the game's first goal with 28:45 left in the half. Dominican countered with the three next goals, one coming off the stick of sophomore Jenna Fox (Stony Point, N.Y.) and the other two from junior Jenna Kelleher (Holbrook, N.Y.) with the assists going to Jeanie Peluso (Stony Point, N.Y.) to give DC the 3-1 edge.
Over the next ten minutes the Lady Chargers would outscore their opponents, 4-3, to increase their lead to 7-4. Peluso netted the man-up goal off the pass from sophomore Alayna Heegan (North Babylon, N.Y.). Heegan would later follow with a free position score and Kelleher completed the hat trick with a goal off the assist from Fox. Fox gave DC the three goal lead with 16:46 left in the half on the unassisted go
The Rams rallied with the next 11 straight goals to take a commanding 15-7 lead with under five left in the first half. Dominican went on to close the half on a 3-1 run to cut the deficit to 16-10 at the break.
Jefferson used a 9-1 run in the second half en route to the 25-11 win. Fox netted the lone Dominican goal in the second half on a free position attempt.
Fox finished with five goals and one assists, while Kelleher tallied three goals and one assist. Heegan finished with one goal and two assists in the loss.
Senior goalie Cara Moran (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) made 15 saves.
Dominican returns to action on Wednesday afternoon as they travel to Wilmington University.
