DOMINICAN FALLS ON SENIOR DAY

Hillburn, N.Y. (4/21/18) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team hosted the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College for the final regular season game of the 2018 season. Dominican celebrated their four seniors before the start of the game. Seniors Jeanie Peluso (Stony Point, N.Y.), Aileen Burke (Pearl River, N.Y.), Cara Moran (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.), and Joanna Napolitano (Oakdale, N.Y.) played their final home game of their college careers. The Lady Chargers fell to the Griffins on senior day by a score of 18-15.
Dominican took an early 4-0 lead with two goals each by Alayna Heegan (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Jenna Fox (Stony Point, N.Y.). The Griffins scored the next three goals to cut the deficit to 4-3. Senior Peluso scored her first goal of the game to extend the Dominican lead to 5-3. Twenty seconds later, Taylor Sobel (Oradell, N.J.) made the score 6-3.
The Griffins tied the score on three straight goals. Two goals by Julia Galantich and one by Julia Reinart. Dominican regained the lead with two straight goals by Heegan and Melissa Peysson (East Meadow, N.Y.). The Griffins used a four-goal run to regain the lead and entered halftime with a 10-8 lead.
Spencer Fitzgerald started the scoring in the second half to give the Griffins an 11-8. Dominican answered with a goal by Heegan to cut the deficit to 11-9. The Griffins jumped out to a 13-9 lead with two straight goals. Dominican answered with two goals of their own to cut the deficit to 13-11.
Julia Galantich scored back to back goals and Julia Reinart added a goal to help the Griffins extend their lead to 16-11 over Dominican. Sobel ended the Griffin run and Heegan scored her sixth goal of the game to help Dominican cut the deficit to 16-13.
The Griffins added two more goals to extend to an 18-13 lead, but Fox answered for Dominican with two goals to make the score 18-15. The Griffins closed out the win to improve their record to 10-5 (7-2 CACC). As for Dominican, they finish the 2018 season with a record of 6-9 (5-4 CACC).
Heegan finished the game with six goals while Fox finished with four goals. Peluso and Sobel both finished with two goals. Peysson added a goal for Dominican. Moran finished the game recording 12 saves.
Julia Reinart led the Griffins with six goals while Julia Galantich finished with four goals and Spencer Fitzgerald finished with four goals. Dai Pearson, Hunter Leckonby, and Erica McLaughlin all added one goal in the win.
The first round of the CACC conference tournament will be held this Tuesday April 24th.
