FOX AND HEEGAN REACH 100 GOAL PLATEAU IN LOSS TO CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE
Lafayette Hill, Pa.(4/24/18) The #4 Chestnut Hill College women's lacrosse team used a 5-0 run to start the second half to pull away from #6 Dominican College, 18-16, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Quarterfinal contest held on Victory Field #1.
Lafayette Hill, Pa.(4/24/18) The #4 Chestnut Hill College women's lacrosse team used a 5-0 run to start the second half to pull away from #6 Dominican College, 18-16, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Quarterfinal contest held on Victory Field #1.
With the loss, Dominican ends the season with an overall record of 6-10. Chestnut Hill advances to the CACC Championship Semifinals scheduled for this coming Saturday.
The Lady Chargers opened the game on a 5-0 run with sophomore Taylor Sobel (Oradell, N.J.) recording the game's first goal just 42 seconds into the game off the pass from Alayna Heegan (North Babylon, N.Y.). Midfielder Jenna Fox (Stony Point, N.Y.) the scored the first of three free position goals, followed by Heegan and then Fox again for the 5-0 lead with 22:01 left in the first half.
CHC broke the run with a goal, but senior Jeanie Peluso (Stony Point, N.Y.) regained a five-goal lead (6-1) with just over 16 minutes left in the first half with an unassisted goal. The Griffins used a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 6-5, but DC outscored their opponents 3-1 over the remaining nine minutes to take a 9-6 lead into the intermission. Heegan netted two of the goals, while Peluso added the other.
A 5-0 Griffin run to begin the second half turned a three goal deficit into a two goal (11-9) advantage with 22:38 left in regulation. Fox used a free position goal to bring her team within a goal, but a CHC score regained a two goal lead. Fox followed with a man-up free position goal with 16:32 to play to cut the lead to 12-11. This fourth game goal was Fox's 100th career goal.
Dominican used a 3-1 run over the next almost five minutes to rebuild a 14-13 edge. Heegan, Jenna Kelleher (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Peluso scored three goals in a row to regain the lead. A 2-0 spurt by the Griffins put them back ahead, 15-14, with under 11 minutes to play.
A free position goal from Heegan re-tied the game and allowed her to reach the 100 career goal plateau. she followed that with an assisted goal from Fox to five them a 16-15 lead with 9:48 left in the game. CHC closed out the contest with three straight goals for the 18-16 victory.
Heegan finished with contest with six goals and two assists for eight game points.
Fox and Peluso finished with four goals each, while Fox added two assists.
Senior goalie Cara Moran (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) made 14 saves in the loss.
Tonight marked the final game for seniors Peluso, Moran, Joanna Napolitano (Oakdale, N.Y.) and Aileen Burke (Pearl River, N.Y.). We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.
