LADY CHARGERS FALL SHORT IN CACC CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

Lakewood, N.J. (4/30/22) The third-seeded Lady Chargers of Dominican College fell in the 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Final to the top-seeded Lions of Georgian Court University, 17-16, this afternoon in a game played on at the GCU Turf Field.

Lakewood, N.J. (4/30/22) The third-seeded Lady Chargers of Dominican College fell in the 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Final to the top-seeded Lions of Georgian Court University, 17-16, this afternoon in a game played on at the GCU Turf Field.

With the win Dominican concludes their season with an overall record of 14-5.

The game was tied 6-all with a little over ten minutes remaining in the second quarter when Dominican went on a 4-1 with Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.) and Sydney Strohmayer (Rocky Point, N.Y.) scoring two goals a-piece to give the team a 10-7 advantage. GCU closed out the half on a 3-0 run to tie the game, 10-10.

Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.) opened the the third quarter with her fourth game goal for the 11-10 edge, but the Lions answered back with back-to-back goals to go up, 12-11 with six and a half minutes left in the period.  Ortiz and Jordana Tomasetti (Middletown, N.J.) returned the lead to Dominican as they recorded unanswered goals and rebuilt a 13-12 lead.  GCU scored three straight goals to put them in the lead for good at 15-13 with 13:40 left in the game.

The Lady Chargers ended the game with the final two goals off the sticks of DeStasio and Ellie Brouwer (West Long Branch, N.J.) for the final 17-16 score.

Ortiz had six goals and one assist for seven points for the Lady Chargers. DeStasio added five goals and two assists for seven points as well. Strohmayer tossed in three goals as well.

Goalkeeper Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) tied her career high with 18 saves in the loss.
