Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/4/17) The Lady Chargers opened their October portion of the schedule at home on Wednesday when they hosted the Clippers of Concordia College. Both teams entered the game earning only one win so far this season and were seeking the opportunity to win their second game of the season. After being shut out by Molloy College on Saturday, the Lady Chargers were looking to get back into the win column for the first time since their win at Nyack College.
The Lady Chargers started the game off on the right foot after taking an early 1-0 lead at the 15:18 mark when Kaitlyn Montera (New City, NY) scored for the third time this season. Montera took a pass from teammate Danielle Gillespie (New City, NY) from the right side of the box to set up the perfect opportunity to give their team a 1-0 lead.
Almost twelve minutes later, the Lady Chargers extended their lead to 2-0 at the 27:04 mark when Montera scored her second of the game assisted by Reena Jiries (Howell, NJ) for Montera's team leading fourth goal of the season. The difference in the success between this game and previous games for the Lady Chargers is the amount of shots they have taken. In the first half against Concordia, Dominican stayed aggressive and fired 11 shots at goalkeeper Christina Majdanski. Two goals from Montera led the team to the 2-0 lead at halftime.
It wasn't long into the second half when the Lady Chargers extended their lead to 3-0 over the Clippers. Just over a minute into the second half at the 46:16 mark, Taylor Calero (New City, NY) took a pass from Montera and scored from 18 yards away for her third goal of the season.
Dominican held on to the 3-0 lead the rest of the way while goalkeeper Angelica Contreras (Baytown, TX) made seven saves in the game and six of them in the second half keeping the Clippers scoreless for her second win of the season and second shutout of the season.
With six games remaining in the season, the Lady Chargers will look to keep the momentum going to finish the season strong. The team travels to Wilmington University on Saturday to take on the Wildcats at 12:00.
