New Castle, Del. (10/6/17) The Lady Charger soccer team traveled to Wilmington University for a conference game against the Wildcats. Coming off their second win of the season, the Lady Chargers had their sights set on their first back-to-back wins of the year. The Wildcats were in search of staying in the hunt for good positioning in the conference standings.
The Lady Chargers and the Wildcats were scoreless for the first part of the first half with the Wildcats emerging as the more aggressive team. At the 24:22 mark, Laura van Steveninck scored off of a corner kick which went unassisted. The Wildcats added to their lead at the 40:08 mark with the first half coming to an end when Loran Wyrough scored to make the score 2-0. The first half came to an end and even though the Lady Chargers were only down by 2 goals with a lot of time left, it felt the more. The Wildcats outshot Dominican in the first half 19-3 making it seem like the Lady Chargers were overmatched.
The second half started the same way the first half did and the Wildcats kept the pressure on. The Wildcat offense stayed aggressive and scored again ten minutes into the half when La'Dae Boykin added to their lead 3-0. Wilmington's Loran Wyrough was the game's star as she added three more goals in the second half back to back to back. Her second goal of the game and first of the half came at the 69:59 mark giving the Wildcats a 4-0 lead. Wyrough earned a hat trick at the 72:24 mark and netted her fourth and final goal of the game at the 78:47 mark.
The Lady Chargers dropped to 2-9 (2-6 CACC) and were outshot in the game by a total of 34-6. In the loss, Dominican's Angelica Contreras (Baytown, TX) faced many shots in the game and recorded 13 saves. The Lady Chargers will host Post University on Tuesday for their next game as they look to bounce back from this loss.
