Wilmington, Del. (10/14/17) The Dominican College Women's soccer team traveled to Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday after dropping back to back games. The Lightening, 10-3-1 (8-2 CACC), are one of the top teams in the conference and were looking to keep themselves in a good position in the CACC. The Lady Chargers, 2-11 (2-8 CACC), are just looking to finish strong in what has been a tough season for them so far.
The Lightening started off strong with a goal by Alanna Speaks at the 2:17 mark for her 11th score of the season. Speaks took a pass from teammate Clionna Crammond who made a long pass to set up the score and the Lightening had an early 1-0 lead. At the 37:58 mark, Amy Runciman scored her 6th of the year which went unassisted to give Goldey-Beacom a 2-0 lead with not much time left in the half. The Lady Chargers then quickly answered. With time running low in the half, Kevina Shalvey (Bronxville, NY) netted her first of the season at the 43:22 mark which went unassisted. The goal cut the deficit in half and the Lady Chargers found themselves back in the game going into half time. Both offenses took five shots in the first half as Angelica Contreras (Baytown, TX) recorded three saves to keep the game close. Marta Lopez made two saves in the half.
The second half was a totally different story. The Lightening struck first at the 48:41 mark to start the half off the right way. Cliona Crammond took a pass off of a corner kick from teammate Amy Runciman for her fifth of the season and the Lightening extended their lead to 3-1. Less than a minute later, Alanna Speaks scored her second of the game and 12th of the year from Elena Power and Goldey-Beacom at the time had a 4-1 lead. Almost three minutes later, Taylor Calero (New City, NY) scored an unassisted goal for her fourth goal of the year and the Lady Chargers cut the deficit to 4-2.
It wasn't enough as the Lightening scored two more times to lock in the win the 67:50 mark and the 86:35 mark. Cliona Crammond scored the fifth Lightening goal and her second of the game and then teammate Amy Runciman scored her second of the game to make the score 6-2 which would ultimately be the final for the game. Goldey-Beacom's offense took 17 shots in the second half and scored four times which was no match for the Lady Chargers. Contreras made 8 saves in the second half and had 11 for the game but the Lightening scored six time off of her for the 6-2 victory. The Lady Chargers only have three games left in the 2017 season with two out of three to be played at home. They will travel to Bloomfield College on Wednesday as they look to end the season off on the right foot.
