DOMINICAN SHUTOUT BY QUEENS COLLEGE ON SENIOR DAY

Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/30/17) The Lady Chargers soccer team hosted Queens College for their final game of the 2017 regular season. Today marked the senior game for the few seniors graduating and playing in their last game. Alexandria Montefinese (Eatontown, NJ), Ina Koeder (Schwaebisch Hall, Germany), Kim Koeder (Schwaebisch Hall, Germany), and Kaitlyn Montera (New City, NY) were honored before the game. The Lady Chargers entered today's contest with a record of 2-13 (2-10 CACC) and were looking to end the season off with a win. Dominican was entering the game on a five-game skid with their last win coming at the beginning of the month against Concordia College. Queens College was also playing their final game of the season after falling to Goldey-Beacom on Friday.
The game was scoreless for most of the first half with both teams being able to muster some shots. The Knights took eight shots in the half while the Lady Chargers took six shots. Dominican was unable to get any of their shots passed the Knights' goalkeeper Nicole Cranny as she stopped the two shots on goal to keep the Lady Chargers scoreless. Angelica Contreras (Baytown, TX) made three saves for Dominican in the half in efforts to keep her team in the game as much as possible. With the half coming to an end, the Knights' Sarafina Smith scored the game's first goal to give her team a 1-0 lead. Forty-eight seconds later, the Knights extended their lead to 2-0 on Courtney Locurcio's goal. The Knights held the 2-0 lead into the second half.
In the second half, the Knights picked up where they left off with a quick goal to start the half at the 47:43 mark by Victoria Ramirez to give her team a 3-0 lead. The game would remain 3-0 for the duration of the second half and would ultimately become the final. The Knights kept the pressure on in the second half by controlling the offensive side with eleven more shots while Dominican only recorded three shots in the half. The Lady Chargers dropped to 2-14 (2-10 CACC) to finish the 2017 season.
With four seniors graduating, the younger Lady Chargers are hopeful to have learned from this past season and will enter the 2018 season with high goals and achievement.
