McCARTHY NAMED WOMEN’S SOCCER COACH
Orangeburg, N.Y. (6/8/18) Dominican College Director of Athletics, Joseph S. Clinton, has announced the hiring of Sean McCarthy as the new head women’s soccer coach.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (6/8/18) Dominican College Director of Athletics, Joseph S. Clinton, has announced the hiring of Sean McCarthy as the new head women's soccer coach.
"We are excited for Sean to take over our women's soccer program," said Clinton. "His knowledge of the sport and the school, along with his passion and enthusiasm for recruiting and coaching, made him the ideal candidate for the position."
McCarthy is no stranger to Dominican College as he has spent the past five years as an assistant coach on the men's soccer staff. In his time on the men's soccer staff, McCarthy assisted in all facets of the program including recruiting, scouting and in-game coaching. He was part of the staff that guided the Chargers to the conference championship in 2012 and semi-final appearances in 2013 and 2014.
"I would like to thank Joe Clinton and the entire search committee for this tremendous opportunity," McCarthy said. "I am looking forward to working with the student-athletes and administration in establishing the Lady Charger soccer program as a prominent force in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and the East Region."
Prior to his time at Dominican, McCarthy spent two years at Waynesburg University as the head coach of both the women's and men's programs. He compiled a record of 25-11-4 with the women's team and a record of 13-21-2 with the men's team to leave Yellow Jackets with a combined record of 38-32-6. He set a new record for wins in a season in 2011 on the women's side and had seven players named to the All-PAC Team in his time there, while coaching the leading goal scorer in the President's Athletic Conference (PAC). With the men's team he set records for most conference wins in program history and had the second most overall wins in 2011. McCarthy also had five players named to the All-PAC Team and two ESPN Scholar-Athlete Award winners.
McCarthy began his collegiate coaching career at Elizabethtown College where he served as an assistant men's soccer coach. He then went on to SUNY Old Westbury where he spent time as the first assistant coach of the men's program and also was an assistant coach at Xavier University.
McCarthy is a 2004 graduate of SUNY Old Westbury with a degree in American Studies. He also holds certifications with the NSCAA State Diploma with Distinction, a NSCAA National Diploma and a NSCAA Advanced National with Distinction. He lives in Rockland County, N.Y. with is wife, Lindsey and their children; Emma, Molly and Joseph.
