ESPEJO, THOMAS AND MURPHY WIN AT GOLDEN RAM INVITATIONAL
West Chester, Pa. (4/6/24) The Dominican University New York women's track and field squad traveled to the Golden Ram Invitational today held on the campus of West Chester, Pa.
Senior Steffy Espejo (Tunja, Colombia) had a fantastic day by winning both the 1500m run and the 5000m run.
Freshman Kiana Thomas (Riviera Beach, Fla.) won the 100m hurdle event and took second place in the 400m hurdles.
The steeplechase event saw junior Anna Murphy (Holbrook, N.Y.) win the event with a time of 14:29.15, while Miranda Tucker (Nassau, Bahamas) took second in the shot put.
Patience Burgess (New City, N.Y.) also had a second place finish in the 1500m run, while the 4x100m relay team and the 4x400m relay team also placed second.
RESULTS
- Espejo won the 1500m run with a time of 5:53.29. Burgess took second place with a time of 6:28.16, with Rachel Reagan (Dumont, N.J.) finishing fourth with a time of 7:20.80.
- Espejo also won the 5000m run with a time of 22;08.76.
- Freshman Thomas took the top spot in the 100m hurdle event with a time of 17.87.
- Thomas also took second place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:13.22.
- Junior Murphy won the 3000 steeplechase, finishing the event with a time of 14:29.15.
- The 4x100m relay team of Krystal Parris (Toronto, Canada), Jayda Jones (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), Thomas and Tiara Cargill (Queens, N.Y.) took second place with a time of 53.23.
- Dunne, Espejo, Thomas and Murphy teamed up for the 4x400m relay and took second place with a time of 4:39.73.
- The shot put event saw Tucker take second place with a throw of 11.01m (36' 1.5"). Julissa Velasquez (Ozone Park, N.Y.) finished in sixth place with a throw of 9.57m (31' 4.75") and Tori Benson (Buffalo, N.Y.) took seventh place with a throw of 9.15m (30' 0.25").
- Tucker also competed in the javelin throw and took fourth place with a throw of 30.26m (99' 3").
- Freshman Cargill placed fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 28.60. Julia Dunne (Babylon, N.Y.) took fifth place with a time of 28.87 and Parris finished in eighth place with a time of 31.79.
- Dunne finished in fifth place in the 400m dash with a time of 1:08.87, while Anjalice Arias (Middletown, N.Y.) took 10th place with a time of 1:13.20.
- Cargill took seventh place in the 100m dash with a time of 13.64. Parris finished in 10th place with a time of 14.02 and Madison Wood (Middletown, N.Y.) ran a time of 15.79 to place 13th overall.
- In the 800m event, Murphy took seventh place with a time of 2:43.06 and Burgess finished in 11th place with a time of 3:02.74.
- Velasquez took 11th place in the discus event with a throw of 24.52m (80' 5") and Benson finished in 12th place with a throw of 24.14m (79' 2").
