MURPHY, ESPEJO AND THOMAS WIN EVENTS AT QUEENS KNIGHT OPENER
Flushing, N.Y. (4/12/24) The Dominican University New York women's track and field team competed today at the Queens College Knights Spring Opener held today on the campus of Queens College.
Junior Anna Murphy (Holbrook, N.Y.) won the 1500m run with a time of 5:49.38
Steffy Espejo (Tunja, Colombia) took the top spot in the 3000m run with a time of 12:29.40.
The 100m hurdles saw freshman Kiana Thomas (Riviera Beach, Fla.) win the event with a time of 17.58.
RESULTS
- The 1500m run saw Murphy win the event with a time of 5:49.38. Rachel Reagan (Dumont, N.J.) finished in sixth place with a time of 7:18.26.
- Espejo won the 3000m run with a time of 12:29.40
- In the 100m hurdles, Thomas ran a time of 17.58 to take the top spot.
- The 4x400m relay team of Julia Dunne (Babylon, N.Y.), Thomas, Anjalice Arias (Middletown, N.Y.) and Murphy had a second place finish with a time of 4:49.63.
- Thomas also took second place in the 400m dash with a time of 1:05.22. Arias finished in ninth place with a time of 1:10.54.
- Freshman Patience Burgess (New City, N.Y.) took part in the 800m run and took fourth place with a time of 2:52.42.
- Miranda Tucker (Nassau, Bahamas) competed in the shot put event and took fourth place with a throw of 10.19m (33' 5.25"). Julissa Velazquez (Ozone Park, N.Y.) finished in ninth place with a throw of 8.82m (28' 11.25") and Tori Benson (Buffalo, N.Y.) took 12th place with a throw of 8.37m (27' 5.5").
- The 100m dash finals saw Krystal Parris (Toronto, Canada) take eighth place with a time of 20.57. In the preliminary rounds, Parris took sixth place with a time of 14.10, while Brieanna Alexander (Spring Valley, N.Y.) took ninth place with a time of 14.48. Jayda Jones (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) finished in 33rd place with a time of 18.61.
- Tiara Cargill (Queens, N.Y.) competed in the long jump event.
