Orangeburg, NY (6/30/09) Head Coach Stefanie Carrington is proud to announce a recruiting class of nine student-athletes who will be joining the women's volleyball team for the 2009 season. Ashley Evdokimo, Jordyn Fuller, Danielle Johnston, N'Jameh Philip, Whitney Ranger, Courtney Heard, Kristen Loney, Michelle Fiorvanti, and Michelle Klimas will comprise the Lady Chargers' class of 2013.
Carrington, who is entering her second season with the program, is "excited about the talent and enthusiasm of the incoming recruits. They bring a wealth of experience with them as athletes and are equally strong students in the classroom."
Klimas, a 5'8 outside hitter from Thornwood, NY (Westlake HS), led her team to two straight New York State Class C Finals and has been named to the Section 1 Super 70 as well as the All Section team. She also played for Downstate Juniors Volleyball Club where she led her team to a season high 4th place finish at the GEVA Seeding event in February.
"Michelle possesses the ball control to be a great all around player at this level. With some hard work, she could compete immediately for a starting spot," said Carrington.
Fiorvanti, a 5'9 outside hitter from Commack, NY (Commack HS) is a two time All-Conference as well as a two time Suffolk County Top 50 selection. She also led her club team to a Regional Championship in 2005 as well as in 2007.
Carrington states "Michelle brings power at the net and stays cool under pressure. She will likely add a great presence to our lineup from day one."
Loney, a 5'10 middle blocker from Pine Bush, NY (Pine Bush HS) comes from the reigning Section 9 Champion Pine Bush Lady Bushmen volleyball program. In 2008, she led her team to the NYS Class AA Final Four and has been named to the 1st team AA All State and All Section teams.
Carrington says "Kristen comes from a great program and has an amazing work ethic. I am excited to have someone with her background and training coming into our program."
Heard, a 5'9 middle blocker from Ventura, CA (Buena HS) comes to Dominican with 2 time All Channel League Honorable Mention accolades.
"Courtney's quickness will allow her to become a successful contributor to our team immediately. She is a pleasure to be around and will certainly add a lot to the team on and off the court," said Carrington.
Ranger, a 5'8 setter from Ventura, CA (Buena HS) was named to the 2008 All Channel League Second Team and was awarded the Tournament MVP honor at the 2008 Cougar Classic.
"Whitney has the experience, athleticism, and smarts to emerge as a leader from the moment she steps on the court. She could very well run our offense as a freshman and lead the team in a great new direction," said Carrington.
Philip, a 5'7 setter from Monroe, NY (Monroe-Woodbury HS) is a scholar athlete and has three years of varsity experience at Monroe-Woodbury High School.
Carrington says "N'Jameh has the athleticism to play almost any position for us. She has great ball control and will probably compete for the starting setter role."
Johnston, a 5'7 defensive specialist from Cornwall, NY (Cornwall HS) captained her high school team on their way to the NYS Class A Final 4 and was named a NYS Scholar Athlete.
Evdokimo, a 5'5 libero from Reno, NV (McQueen HS) played for Capital City Volleyball Club and served as captain for two years.
Fuller, a 5'2 libero from Keller, TX (Keller HS) is a three time Second Team All District and 3 Time Academic All District selection.
Coach Carrington believes "This trio will add lots of fire to our back row and should certainly help anchor our defense. Danielle comes from a solid program and has the drive to succeed at this level. Ashley is a natural leader and will bring some great energy to our team in practice as well as in matches, while Jordyn has a fearless attitude and the determinism that should prove beneficial to our team."
The Lady Chargers finished the 2008 season with anoverall record of 2-25 and were 2-15 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
