New Haven, CT (9/3/11) The Dominican College women's volleyball team opened up the 2011 season with a split at the Southern Connecticut State University tri-match which was held today. DC lost to host, SCSU, 3-1, but rallied to defeat Molloy College, 3-1 in the second match. With the split Dominican now stands at 1-1 on the season.

New Haven, CT (9/3/11)  The Dominican College women's volleyball team opened up the 2011 season with a split at the Southern Connecticut State University tri-match which was held today.  DC lost to host, SCSU, 3-1, but rallied to defeat Molloy College, 3-1 in the second match.  With the split Dominican now stands at 1-1 on the season.

Match One: Against SCSU, the Owls won the first set 25-21, but the Lady Chargers fought back to take set two, 25-17.  The third set saw a repeat score in favor of the Owls, 25-21 and put them ahead 2-1.  Tied at 21-21 in the fourth set, SCSU won the next four out of six points for the 25-21 set win and 3-1 match victory.

Junior Courtney Heard (Ventura, CA) led the team with 22 kills, while teammate Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) added 15 kills.  Setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) led the team with 38 assists, while Jordyn Fuller (Keller, TX) recorded a team leading 28 digs.

Match Two: Dominican took the first set of match two, 28-26 against the Lions and extended the lead to 2-0 with a 25-23 second set win.  Molloy fought back to win set three, 25-23, but DC pulled ahead in set four after a 6-6 tie to win the set 25-21 and bring home a 3-1 match victory.

Tied 6-6 in the fourth set, the Lady Chargers went on a 4-1 run to go ahead 12-8.  With a 21-20 edge, Fiorvanti recorded a kill and server N'Jameh Philip (Monroe, NY) followed with an ace to claim a 23-20 advantage.  A Lion attack error put DC at match point, but a MC kill made the score 24-21.  Fiorvanti ended the match with a kill for the 25-21 victory.

Heard once again led the team with 22 kills, while Fiorvati recorded 16 kills.  Ranger tallied a match leading 46 assists, while Fuller had 26 digs.

Dominican is back in action on Wednesday, September 7th when they open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on the road against Felician College.  Match time is set for 7pm.
