WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL DOWNS GOLDEY-BEACOM COLLEGE
Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/24/16) The Dominican College women's volleyball squad downed the visiting Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College, 3-0 (25-17, 28-26, 25-20), this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/24/16) The Dominican College women's volleyball squad downed the visiting Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College, 3-0 (25-17, 28-26, 25-20), this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
A kill from senior Cortney Yeoman (Glenn Dale, Md.) gave the Lady Chargers a 7-3 lead in the opening set, but a 4-1 Lightning run brought them within a point (7-8). Sophomore Alexa Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) served five straight service points to extend the lead to 14-7 and they would extend the lead to as many as nine points (23-14). A GBC attack error gave Dominican the 25-17 win.
DC posted 11 kills in the first set and compiled a .346 attack percentage for the set.
Dominican began the second frame with a 7-3 advantage, but GBC would come back to later knot the set at 12-12. From their neither team led by more than two points and a kill from rookie Gabrielle Napoleon (Springfield, Pa.) re-tied the game at 26-all. Senior Kera Dexter* (Selah, Wash.) recorded a kill to put the team at set point and libero Angela Kim (Marlton, N.J.) secured the 28-26 win with a service ace.
In the decisive third set, the Lady Chargers trailed 5-2 when the team wen ton a 10-4 run to claim a 12-9 advantage. Consecutive service aces from Napoleon made the score 21-17 and DC closed out the back with back-to-back kills from Dexter and Yeoman for the 3-0 match win.
The Lady Chargers closed out the match posting 16 kills in the third set and recording a .375 attack percentage.
Freshman Deanna Knopf (Hauppauge, N.Y.) led the Lady Chargers with nine kills, while Yeoman recorded eight kills.
Williams finished with a career high 17 digs and seven kills, while Napoleon also had seven kills and three aces.
Kim contributed 12 digs, while Dexter finished with a team best 29 assists and six kills.
DC improves to 3-9 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Dominican returns to CACC North Division action on Tuesday night as they travel to Felician University.
