WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL OPEN 2017 WITH LOSS TO OWLS
New Haven, Conn. (9/1/17) The Dominican College women's volleyball squad opened the 2017 season with a non-conference loss to host Southern Connecticut State University, 3-0 (9-25, 12-25, 14-25) in a match played this evening at Pelz Gym.

With the loss, the Lady Chargers are now 0-1 on the season, while the Owls improve to 1-0.
Dominican trailed 3-2 in the first set when a 6-0 SCSU run put them on top, 9-2. Following a DC timeout, the Lady Charger went on a 4-0 spurt with Natalia Perez (Prosper, Texas) recording three service points and one ace. The Owls countered with a 16-2 set ending run for the 1-0 lead.
In the second set, the Owls quickly jumped out to a 9-0 lead en route to the 25-12 set win and take a 2-0 match lead.
DC opened the final set with a 5-3 leading, taking advantage of a Deanna Knopf (Hauppauge, N.Y.) service ace and later led 7-5 on a Perez ace. An 8-0 tear by the Owls set them up for victory as they took the set 25-14 and went home with the 3-0 match victory.
Sophomores Gabrielle Napoleon (Springfield, Pa.) and Mykalee Chambers (Bronx, N.Y.) paced the Lady Chargers with three kills each in the loss.
Essence Boyd (Peekskill, N.Y.) had five assists and Perez finished with seven digs.
The Lady Chargers continue on their season opening road trip as they will travel to the Skyhawk Invitational to matches on Saturday and Sunday.
