Caldwell, N.J. (11/4/17) The Lady Chargers traveled to Caldwell University for a late season match against the Cougars. The Cougars, now 20-7 (14-3 CACC), still hold the top position in the conference as the season is quickly coming to a close. A win against Dominican will put the Cougars one step closer to claiming the top seed for the conference tournament. As for the Lady Chargers, it has been a rough season for them up until this point, but have stayed strong throughout the season. Both teams will only have two more matches to play before the 2017 regular season ends.
In the first set, Caldwell used a five-point streak and a six-point streak to separate themselves from the Lady Chargers and cruised to the 25-16 win to take the early 1-0 lead in the match. The Cougars picked up where they left off from the first set into the second set as they broke away from Dominican again mid-way through the set.
The Lady Chargers got off to a better start in the second set but they could not hang with Caldwell for long. The Cougars ended set number two with five consecutive points to take a 2-0 match lead. The Cougars got off to a fast start in the third set 7-1 and Dominican answered as they closed the deficit to 14-10 and they were back in it. The Cougars then answered back with six straight points to make the score 20-10 before finishing the Chargers off by a score of 25-14 and ultimately taking the match 3-0.
Katrina Janssen led in points scored with 13.5 and recorded 12 kills to go along with her points. Teammate Kathleen Compagno was behind Janssen with 10.5 points and 7 kills while Gabrielle Bennett recorded 19 assists and Jessica Mitchell added 14 digs in the victory. As, for Dominican, Malia Robinson (Jersey City, NJ) led the team with Gabrielle Napoleon (Springfield, PA) in points with 7 each and Robinson also recorded 6 kills while Napoleon added 7 kills in the match. Natalia Perez (Prosper, TX) led the Lady Chargers in digs with 9 and Essence Boyd (Peekskill, NY) led the team in assists with 19.
With only two matches remaining for the Lady Chargers, they will look to earn wins in both contests when they travel to Post University on Wednesday November 8th at 7:00 PM and will host Bloomfield College on Saturday November 11th at 12:00 PM for the final game of the 2017 season.
