New Haven, Conn. (12/2/17)  Forty-three (43) standouts on Thursday were named to the 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball All-Academic Team, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. The 43 honorees represented 13 CACC member schools that sponsor the sport at the varsity level.

Dominican College had one student-athlete make the all-academic team as sophomore Deanna Knopf (Hauppauge, N.Y.) makes her first appearance with a grade point average of 3.61

Holy Family University, which advanced to the CACC Championship Semifinals, led all schools with six honorees on the list, while Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) followed with five. Leading the way for the Tigers was sophomore Gianna Pesognelli, who sports a cumulative grade point average of 3.95 in her major of criminal justice. Pesognelli's high GPA also enabled her to be named the CACC Top XVI Award winner earlier this month at the conference championship for having the top GPA at the finals site. In addition to her classroom accomplishments, Pesognelli was named to the All-CACC Second Team. 

Three student-athletes on the list posted perfect 4.0 GPAs, including Emma Kongevold (Wilmington University), Jenna Kwiecinski (University of the Sciences) and Brooke Witmer (USciences). Witmer was named to the All-Academic Team for the second time in her career, while Kongevold and Kwiecinski each made their debut on the academic unit.

Eight more student-athletes posted GPAs of 3.90-3.99. The eight individuals included Pesognelli, Jessica Mitchell (Caldwell University, 3.93), Delaney Stuhr (Concordia College, 3.90), Mariah Cadzow (Jefferson, 3.93), Alexandra Harrington (Jefferson, 3.91), Kelsi Collins (Nyack College, 3.95), Ann Marie Nelson (Post University, 3.91) and Miranda Shaw (Wilmington, 3.98).

Another highlight for the All-Academic Team was that 2017 CACC Player of the Year, Katrina Janssen (Caldwell), made the squad by posting a 3.75 in her major of biology.

To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, a student-athletes must meet the following criteria: a) minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 at the end of the immediate preceding term; b) minimum of two semesters enrolled as full-time student at member institution; c) student-athlete must be second year student-athlete at member institution; and d) student-athlete must have been athletically eligible the season preceding the award and used a season of eligibility.
