COUGARS RALLY TO UPEND WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Caldwell, N.J. (10/30/19) The Caldwell University women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win sets four and five to upend the visiting Chargers of Dominican College, 3-2, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action played at the Newman Center.
Caldwell, N.J. (10/30/19) The Caldwell University women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win sets four and five to upend the visiting Chargers of Dominican College, 3-2, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action played at the Newman Center.
Dominican (0-20, 0-14 CACC) used 17 kills and a .302 attack percentage to guide them to a 27-25 first set win. DC trailed 25-24 when senior Deanna Knopf (Hauppauge, N.Y.) recorded a kill to tie the score at 25-all. Back-to-back Cougar attack errors propelled the Chargers to the win.
The Cougars answered back with a 25-15 second set victory, but Dominican pulled away in the third set by going on a 7-1 to build up a 19-13 advantage en route to a 25-20 set win.
Caldwell would force the deciding fifth set by winning the fourth, 25-11. In the fifth, the Cougars broke a 4-4 tie with six consecutive points to jump ahead 10-4 and went on to the 15-10 win and 3-2 match victory.
Senior Malia Robinson (Jersey City, N.J.) led the Chargers with a season high 12 kills, a .242 attack percentage, two block solos and four block assists.
Knopf finished with eight kills and 17 digs, while outside hitter Emmalyn LaPier (Endicott, N.Y.) recorded seven kills and 17 digs. Mykalee Chambers (Bronx, N.Y.) also had seven kills and four block assists.
Freshman setter Krystal Paulino (Bronx, N.Y.) had a career high 24 assists and added six digs and libero Alicia Dennis (Kemp, Texas) had a team high 21 digs.
Gabrielle Napoleon (Springfield, Pa.) contributed six kills, two service aces and one block solo in the loss.
Dominican will host Holy Family University this coming Saturday as the team will celebrate Senior Day in the Hennessy Center.
