Pomona, N.Y. (3/20/19) The Dominican College baseball team completed a sweep over the Cougars of Caldwell University. In game one, the Chargers defeated the Cougars 25-6. Then in game two, the Chargers completed the sweep with a 24-2 win.
With both wins, the Chargers improve to 9-6 (2-0 CACC) and the Cougars fall to 2-8 (0-2 CACC) on the season.
Game One: The Chargers recorded 21 hits on their way to a 25-6 win over the Cougars in game one. John-Michael Broderick (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) recorded the win to improve his record to 2-1 on the season. Broderick recorded four strikeouts in a solid six innings pitched.
Brian Sanders (La Ceiba, Honduras) and Jordan Bernacet (Schenectady, N.Y.) each drove in a team-leading five RBI's. Sanders also had three hits and scored five runs and also stole three bases. Bernacet had two hits and scored two runs including a home run in the first inning.
Max Chidsey (Naples, Fla.) hit the second DC homer and finished the game with two hits, three runs scored, and one RBI. Kennee Torres (Yonkers, N.Y.), Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.), Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.), Billy Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.), and Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.) all contributed multi-hit games.
The Chargers jumped out to an early lead in the first inning with three runs. The Cougars answered with two runs to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Chargers answered with eight runs scored in the second and fourth innings and never looked back and secured the game one win.
Game Two: Dominican continued where they left off in game one with 10 runs to open game two. Dominican scored at least one run in every inning in game two, including a four-run fifth inning and a five-run sixth inning.
The Chargers recorded 21 hits as a team in game two. Justin Decker and Anthony Bartolomei led the team with four RBI's each in the win. Benjamin Meza (Miami, Fla.) recorded two hits, two RBI's, and scored four runs. Elijah Tavarez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) finished with three hits, three runs scored, and two RBI's.
Brian Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.) recorded a triple, scored two runs, and drove in two RBI's in the win. Colon, Bernacet, Torres, Joe Rotelli (Morganville, N.J.), and Nicholas DeCandia (Cresskill, N.J.) all contributed RBI's in the game.
Eric Sandusky (Stony Point, N.Y.) pitched five strong innings and recorded five strikeouts to earn the win.
DC will be back in action against Caldwell University on Friday, March 22nd when they visit the Cougars for another conference doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 12:00 PM and game two is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM.
