Pomona, N.Y. (3/26/19) The Dominican College baseball team completed a sweep over the Bloomfield College Bears. The Chargers earned both wins in the bottom half of the final inning for two walk-off wins at home.
The Chargers improved 13-8 (6-2 CACC) and the Bears fall to 3-21 (3-5 CACC) after dropping both games.
Game One: The Chargers completed the walk-off comeback victory over the Bears in game one by a score of 11-10. John-Michael Broderick (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) started for the Chargers and recorded six strikeouts over 5.1 innings pitched. Cole Francher (Gilboa, N.Y.) earned his third win of the season in 3.1 innings and recorded four strikeouts.
DC opened up an early lead with four runs in the opening inning. The Chargers held a 6-2 lead over the Bears heading into the sixth inning. BC used a big six-run inning to take the lead over the Chargers.
The Bears added a run in the top of the ninth inning to extend their lead out to 10-7 over the Chargers. The Chargers entered the bottom of the ninth inning trailing by three runs. DC rallied for four runs in the ninth to complete the comeback walk-off victory.
Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.) drove in three RBI's and recorded two hits and scored two runs to lead the Chargers. Brian Sanders (La Ceiba, Honduras) recorded three hits, one RBI, and scored three runs. Billy Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.) drove in two runs while Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.), Brian Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.), and Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.) each drove in one RBI.
Game Two: Jordan Bernacet (Schenectady, N.Y.) led DC with three hits and three RBI's including a home run in the second inning and the game-winning hit in the bottom the seventh inning. Justin Decker also drove in three runs for the Chargers. Sanders and Bartolomei each recorded an RBI in the win.
DC led 3-0 until the Bears tied the game with three runs in the fourth inning. The Chargers answered with a big fifth inning to extend their lead out to 7-3. The Bears answered back with four runs in the sixth inning to tie the game up again. DC rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win.
Eric Sandusky (Stony Point, N.Y.) started for the Chargers and recorded seven strikeouts in five innings pitched. Nicholas Bolanos (Miami, Fla.) earned the win in relief for DC for his first of the season.
The Chargers will be back in action against the Bears on the road on Friday, March 29th at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
