Pomona, N.Y. (4/14/19) The Dominican College baseball team split a conference doubleheader with the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning.

Pomona, N.Y. (4/14/19) The Dominican College baseball team split a conference doubleheader with the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning.
In game one, the Lightning defeated the Chargers by a score of 9-6. In game two, DC completed a comeback to bounce back and take game two 8-5. After the split, the Chargers improve to 20-16 (13-9 CACC) and the Lightning now stands at 11-27 (10-14 CACC).
Game One: Each team scored once in the opening inning and the Lightning took the lead in the top of the second after a two-run homer by Mason Maxwell. Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) cut the deficit to 3-2 with an RBI double.
The Lightning extended to an 8-2 lead with two runs in the fourth inning followed by three runs in the fifth inning. Brandon Abdul recorded an RBI single then later scored on an error. Tevin Thomas homered and then Abdul drove in two more runs on a two-RBI double for the 8-2 lead.
DC scored a run in the fifth inning and added two runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 8-5. Jordan Bernacet (Schenectady, N.Y.) homered in the sixth and Brett Karcher-Bowen (Cypress, Texas) singled to make the game 8-5.
Justin Hill homered in the ninth to add a run and extended the lead to 9-5. DC rallied in the ninth inning. The GBC lead was cut to 9-6 after an RBI single by Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.). The rally fell short after Bailey Spence entered the game in relief and recorded the save.
Anthony Dimartino earned his first win of the season after eight innings pitched and added seven strikeouts.
Kennee Torres (Yonkers, N.Y.) led the team in hits with three and also scored two runs. Justin Decker, Brian Rotella (Stony, Point, N.Y.), and Joshua Colon each recorded two hits for DC.
Brandon Abdul drove in three RBI and Mason Maxwell drove in two RBI to lead GBC.
Game Two: Justin Hill gave GBC an early lead with his second home run in as many games. The Chargers took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Justin Decker hit a two-RBI single.
The Lightning regained the lead in the second inning after Cole Collins two-RBI single. Collins extended the lead to 5-2 on an RBI single.
DC cut the deficit to 4-3 after a sac-fly by Brian Sanders (La Ceiba, Honduras). Justin Hill extended the lead back to two runs after an RBI single.
The Chargers used a big five-run inning to take back the lead. Jordan Bernacet shut the Lightning down in the seventh inning and helped secure the victory and earned the win in relief.
Justin Decker led the way with three RBI for the Chargers. Brian Sanders, Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.), Elijah Tavarez (Valley, Stream, N.Y.), Jordan Bernacet, and Billy Rotella (Stony, Point, N.Y.) all added one RBI each for the Chargers in the win.
The Chargers will be back in action on Monday, April 15th when they host the Eagles of Post University for a conference doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 3:00 PM and game two will begin at 6:00 PM.
