BASEBALL UPENDED BY WILMINGTON IN CACC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Waterbury, Conn. (5/11/19) The Dominican College baseball team fell in the 2019 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship game to Wilmington University, 14-8, in a game played this afternoon at Municipal Stadium and hosted by Post University.

Dominican opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the second inning as senior Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.) led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Two batters later, senior Jordan Bernacet (Schenectady, N.Y.) brought him home on a double to left centerfield and third basemen Billy Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.) followed with a double to right center field to bring home Bernacet and make the score 2-0.
The 'Cats got a run back in the bottom of the second, but DC added two more runs in the third on the two run double down the left field line to increase the lead to 4-1. WU countered in the bottom frame with four runs on four hits to take their first lead, 5-4.
The Chargers answered back in the top of the fourth as they scored three runs on three hits. Freshman Brian Sanders (La Ceiba, Honduras) plated a run on a single through the right side and senior Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) scored two runs on a double down the left field line to regain a 7-5 edge after four innings of play.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Wilmington scored four runs on four hits to claim a 9-7 edge.
DC added a run in the sixth on the sacrifice fly ball hit to right field off the bat of Decker to cut the deficit to 9-8, but WU added runs in the bottom of the sixth, seventh and eighth to lead them to the 14-8 win and CACC Championship.
Bernacet finished the day with three hits and three RBI, while Sanders had three hits. Decker finished with three RBI and two hits, while Bartolomei scored two runs.
Dominican's John-Michael Broderick (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.), Jaden Diaz-Lambert (Erial, N.J.) and Decker were named to the All-CACC Tournament Team.
Following the loss, Dominican ends their season with an overall record of 29-25.
