Cary, N.C. (3/8/20) The Dominican College baseball team split a double-header today at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C.

Cary, N.C. (3/8/20) The Dominican College baseball team split a double-header today at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C. The Chargers fell in game one to Slippery Rock University by a score of 9-4 and bounced back in game two to defeat Fairmont St. 9-1. The Chargers overall record is now 2-8 overall on the season.
Game One: Tanner Esposito earned the victory for Slippery Rock with 6.2 innings pitched and recorded seven strikeouts. Ricky Mineo earned the save and recorded five strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched.
Slippery Rock took the lead in the first inning with an RBI walk by Luke Trueman.
The Chargers answered back with a sacrifice fly by Nicholas DeCandia (Cresskill, N.J.) to tie the game at 1-1. The Chargers took the lead in the fourth inning with two runs.
Slippery Rock regained the lead with five unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth innings. DC cut the deficit back to two runs when Arthur Quinones (Miami, Fla.) earned an RBI on a sac fly.
Slippery Rock extended the lead over the next two innings to 9-4 and secured the win over the Chargers.
Abraham Mow, Jon Kozarian, Alex Robenolt, and Luke Trueman each recorded two hits for Slippery Rock. Vince Donato drove in a team-high three RBI's.
Max Chidsey (Naples, Fla.), Steven Santana (Bronx, N.Y.), and Jose Acta (Lyndhurst, N.J.) each recorded one hit for the Chargers. Quinones, Santana, and DeCandia each drove in one run for the Chargers.
Game Two: Dominican opened the game against the Falcons with a run in the first on the RBI single off the bat of Billy Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.). DC added three more runs in the second inning on an error and a two-run single from Brian Sanders (La Ceiba, Honduras) to extend the lead to 4-0.
Four more runs scored in the fourth as three runs came home on Falcon errors and Kennee Torres (Yonkers, N.Y.) singled home a run to make the score 8-0.
A Fairmont run in the bottom of the fourth put them on the board but DC got the run back on an error in the sixth to regain a eight run lead, 9-1.
Acta and Rotella each had two hits in the win, while Sanders added two RBI.
Freshman Brendan Turton (Westbury, N.Y.) picked up his first collegiate win in six innings of work, allowing one run on three hits and six strikeouts.
