CHARGERS DOWN MAVERICKS IN 7TH ANNUAL DANIEL SULLIVAN MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT
Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/17/18) The Dominican College men's basketball team downed the visiting Mavericks of Mercy College, 88-65, this evening in game two of the 7th Annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament, hosted by the Chargers on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.

Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/17/18) The Dominican College men's basketball team downed the visiting Mavericks of Mercy College, 88-65, this evening in game two of the 7th Annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament, hosted by the Chargers on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
With the win, Dominican improves to 2-1 on the season, while the Mavericks drop to 0-3 overall.
The Charger bench helped on the offensive end as they combined to score 54 of the 88 total points.
Junior Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Jason Copman (Cumberland, Md.) each scored a season high 19 points, while Copman grabbed a night best 11 rebounds and Ginyard added five assists.
Guard Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) netted 13 points and senior Ian Gardener contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.
Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) tallied a night best eight assists and six points.
Dominican opened the game with the first four points and led 6-5 before the Mavericks rallied with a 14-4 run to jump ahead 19-10 with 12:16 left in the first half. DC responded over the next six minutes with the next 17 consecutive points to re-claim a 27-19 advantage with six minutes left before the break. Junior Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) would score the last basket of the half to extend the lead to 45-34 at the intermisision.
Mercy would rally as they started off the second half on a 8-0 run and later cut the deficit to 48-44 with 15:42 left in the game. Dominican countered with the next nine points to rebuild a double-digit advantage (57-44) and would later use a 12-2 run to go up 71-51 with 6:25 remainining and never looked back en route to the win.
The Chargers shot 53.1 percent (34-of-64) from the field, 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from beyond the arc and 52.0 percent (13-of-25) from the charity stripe. DC held a 45-33 edge in rebounds which led to an 18-6 advantage in second chance points.
Dominican will square off against St. Thomas Aquinas College tomorrow in the finale of the 7th Annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament. Top-off is scheduled for 5pm on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
