Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/22/19) The Dominican College men’s basketball team outlasted the Bears of Bloomfield College in overtime by a score of 91-84.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/22/19) The Dominican College men's basketball team outlasted the Bears of Bloomfield College in overtime by a score of 91-84. The Chargers improve their record to 13-3 (8-0 CACC) after the OT win. With the loss, the Bears drop to 9-9 (7-2 CACC) on the season.
The Chargers used a 10-2 run over the Bears to jump out to a 21-13 lead. The Bears answered to take back the lead with just over six minutes remaining in the half. The Chargers ended the first half on a 10-3 run to take a 40-34 lead into halftime.
Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) led the Chargers in the opening half with 16 points. Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) added eight points in the first half for the Chargers. Jason Copman (Cumberland, Md.) pulled down six rebounds to lead DC.
The Bears were led by both Kavione Green and Rich Chapman with each scoring eight points. Keith Washington scored seven points for BC.
DC led the Bears by 10 points in the second half before BC cut the deficit to get back in the game. Down the stretch was a back and forth contest between both teams.
BC tied the game with 26 seconds remaining on a jumper by Dontay Julius. Tavon Ginyard put up a shot at the buzzer which did not go down and sent the game into overtime tied at 77-77.
DC outscored the Bears 14-7 in the overtime period to secure the win. Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.) scored eight out of the 14 points DC finished with in overtime.
Rodwell led the way for the Chargers with 28 points and added five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Ginyard added 21 points for the Chargers and Gardener finished with 16 points and pulled down 7 rebounds.
Copman also added seven rebounds for DC and Jonothan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) pulled down six rebounds and scored seven points and recorded three assists. Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) added 11 points in the win.
Kevione Green led the Bears with 29 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Rich Chapman led the team in rebounds with 10 and added 16 points. Dontay Julius finished the game with 13 points.
DC will be back in action on Sunday, January 27th when they visit Holy Family University. The game will tip-off at 3:00 PM.
