Bridgeport, Conn. (12/30/19) The Dominican College men's basketball team dropped a non-conference game to the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport by a score of 95-86. The Chargers fall to 9-3 overall and the Purple Knights improve to 9-2.
Tedrick Wilcox (Pawtucket, R.I.) led the way for DC with 23 points and pulled down five boards.
Bakary Camara scored a team-high 25 points for the Purple Knights and added six assists, four rebounds, and three steals.
In the first half, both teams went back and forth, and the Purple Knights held a 41-37 advantage by halftime. The Purple Knights shot 53.1% from the field while the Chargers shot 44.8% from the field. DC went 8 for 8 from the free-throw line.
The Purple Knights built a 14-point lead in the second half over the Chargers. The Chargers battled back to cut the deficit to five points.
The Chargers did most of their damage from the free-throw line in the second half. DC took 21 free-throws in the second half and finished 25 for 29 for the game.
The comeback fell short as the Purple Knights were able to keep the lead and close out the win. Bridgeport finished the game shooting 58.1% from the field for the game.
Juan Coffi finished the game with 18 points and recorded six rebounds. Travis Robinson-Morgan scored 17 points while D'Vonne Trumbo scored 11 points.
For the Chargers, Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored 19 points and recorded five rebounds. Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass) scored 15 points and added five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) finished with 10 points while Jason Copman (Cumberland, Md.) recorded a team-high eight rebounds and added eight points.
The Chargers will look to bounce back on Thursday, January 2nd when they return home to host the University of District of Columbia for the 14th Annual James Clancy Memorial Game at 6:00 PM.
