FOUR STARTERS REACH DOUBLE FIGURES IN VICTORY OVER LIONS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/26/20) The Dominican College men's basketball squad improved to 14-5 overall and 7-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play today after topping the visiting Lions of Georgian Court University, 75-71, in a game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/26/20) The Dominican College men's basketball squad improved to 14-5 overall and 7-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play today after topping the visiting Lions of Georgian Court University, 75-71, in a game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
In the first half, the score was tied at 25-all with 4:21 left in the first half when senior Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) hit a three-point bucket to give DC the slight advantage, 28-25. Guard Wahaad Johnson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) followed with a trey of his own to extend the lead, 31-25, with three and a half minutes left in the first half. A six-point swing by the Lions re-tied the game at 31-all, but Rodwell regained the lead with another shot from beyond the arc and senior Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) closed out the half with a free throw to put the Chargers up, 35-31 at the break.
With 8:15 remaining in regulation junior Jalen Burgess (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) gave Dominican their biggest lead of the contest, 63-53, on a three-point bucket, but an 8-1 GCU run brought them within three points (64-61) with two and a half minutes to play. Four straight free throws from Rodwell gave DC some breathing room at 68-61 and they went on to the 75-71 victory.
Rodwell led five Chargers in double figures with 21 points and added five assists.
Guard Garcia finished with 15 points, five rebounds, six assists and a game-best five steals.
Senior Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) contributed 13 points, while Jason Copman (Cumberland, Md.) grabbed a game best 14 rebounds to go along with 10 points.
Dominican will travel to CACC opponent, Felician University this coming Wednesday evening.
