Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/17/19) The Dominican College men's soccer team fell to the Mavericks of Mercy College by a score of 3-1 in a non-conference game at OMM Field #5 in Orangeburg, N.Y.
With the loss, the Chargers fall to 1-3 overall on the season and the Mavericks improve to 4-0-1 after the win.
Joshua Stephens (Stony Creek, Ontario) started in net for the Chargers and recorded five saves in the loss. The Chargers took eleven shots as a team and recorded six shots on goal.
Fredy Rosales-Santos (Norwalk, Conn) led DC with four shots and recorded two on goal. Maximo Casares Martinez (Ciudad De Panama, Panama) took three shots and scored the only goal of the game for the Chargers.
The Mavericks scored the first two goals of the game. Santiago Corral scored the first goal of the game for the 1-0 lead then Ignacio Mangada scored about four minutes later to extend the lead to 2-0.
Martinez got the Chargers on the board and cut the deficit in half and the game went to halftime 2-1 in favor of the Mavericks. The Mavericks extended their lead to 3-1 when Santiago Corral scored his second goal of the game early in the second half.
The Mavericks closed out the 3-1 victory and earned their fourth win of the season.
The Chargers will look to bounce back when they open conference play on Saturday, September 21st against the Georgian Court University Lions. The game will be held at OMM Field #5 in Orangeburg, N.Y. at 7:45 PM.
