DOMINICAN OPENS SEASON WITH TWO NON CONFERENCE LOSSES
Orlando, Fla. (2/23/18) The Dominican College softball team opened the 2018 season with a trip down in Florida in search of a strong start to the year.

Orlando, Fla. (2/23/18) The Dominican College softball team opened the 2018 season with a trip down in Florida in search of a strong start to the year. The Lady Chargers were swept in two non-conference games by a score of 10-2 to Columbus St. and 4-0 to North Georgia.
Game One: In the first game of two, pitcher Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) threw three scoreless innings for the Lady Chargers. Columbus St. opened up the scoring in a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth inning when JoJo Beyer cracked a double to center field which plated two runs to give her team a 2-0 advantage.
Columbus St. extended their lead to 7-0 when Kia Smith tripled for three RBI's to complete a seven-run inning for the Cougars. Dominican scored twice in the top of the fifth when Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) singled and drove in the only two runs of the game for the Lady Chargers.
The Cougars added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth when Kristin Reynolds homered to give her team a 10-2 advantage which was the final for the game. The Cougars improved to 6-5 on the season and handed the Lady Chargers their first loss of the season.
Game Two: In the second game of the double-header, the Lady Chargers faces the North Georgia Skyhawks. The Skyhawks have had a lot of early success early on this season and the Lady Chargers were in search of their first win of the season. The Skyhawks started the scoring early with two quick runs in the first inning.
The Nighthawks scratched another run in the third inning to add to their lead and one more in the seventh inning. The Lady Chargers struggled offensively in this game by only recording one hit off of Skyhawks' pitcher Kylee Smith. Rajene Bowe (Ellendale, Del.) recorded the only hit for Dominican in the loss.
The Lady Chargers, after falling in their first two games of the season, are now 0-2 overall. Dominican will be back in action on Saturday February 24th when they match-up against Columbus St. and North Georgia again for the second time in the ESPN Wide World of Sports/Citrus Classic. Dominican will match-up against North Georgia at 10:00 AM and will meet Columbus St. at 12:30 PM.
