Kissimmee, Fla. (2/26/18) The Lady Chargers entered Monday's double header against American International College after earning their first win of the season on Sunday. Dominican continued their opening week to the season in Kissimmee, Florida against the Yellow Jackets.
Game one: Dominican jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Yellow Jackets' pitcher Ariana Dicioccio. Jillian Regan (Staten Island, NY) got the scoring started for the Lady Chargers with a two RBI single to drive in the game's first two runs. Alyssa Seiss (Queens, NY) drove in the third run for the Lady Chargers and Shailei Kraft (Waverly, NY) recorded an RBI single to extend the Lady Chargers lead to 4-0.
The Yellow Jackets scratched a run in the second inning to get on the board. The Lady Chargers extended their lead in the third inning with five more runs. Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, MD) and Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, NY) both singled in runs for the Lady Chargers and Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, NJ) and Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY) followed with a pair RBI doubles. The Yellow Jackets scored in the bottom half of the third and two more times in the fifth but not before the Lady Chargers scored their tenth run of the game in the top of the fifth inning.
Shelby Smith (Valley Center, CA) pitched a strong five innings for Dominican and Jennifer Paride (Stonington, CT) finished off the final two innings to seal the win. Dominican pounded out twelve hits and scored their season high so far in runs with ten. The Lady Chargers improved to 2-5 with the win.
Game Two: The Lady Chargers started out game two like they did in game one with a quick offensive start in the first inning with three runs. Taylor Daniels doubled in two runs to get the scoring started for Dominican. Jillian Regan drove in the third run of the inning for the Lady Chargers for the early 3-0 lead over the Yellow Jackets.
The Lady Chargers extended their lead out to 4-0 over the Yellow Jackets in the bottom of the third inning when Alyssa Schwed cracked a solo homerun to center field. Schwed homered again in the bottom of the fourth inning for her second of the game to give the Lady Chargers a 5-0 lead. Taylor Gilligan (Medford, NJ) doubled in a run to make the game 6-0 and Jillian Regan doubled in Gilligan shortly after to make the game 7-0.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board in the top of the sixth inning with two runs to cut the deficit to 7-2. Brittany Guzman doubled in a run and Ariana DiCioccio singled in Guzman. That is all the Yellow Jackets would get as Dominican completed the sweep with a 7-2 win to improve to 3-5 on the season.
Jennifer Paride threw a complete game to earn the win in a solid performance. Schwed, Daniels, and Regan all had two RBI's while Gilligan added an RBI in the win.
