Waterbury, Conn. (4/9/18) The Dominican College softball squad downed host Post University, 13-8 and 4-2 to sweep the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header held on LaMoy Field this afternoon.

Waterbury, Conn. (4/9/18) The Dominican College softball squad downed host Post University, 13-8 and 4-2 to sweep the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header held on LaMoy Field this afternoon.
With the sweep, Dominican improves to 12-10 overall and 9-3 in conference play.
Game One: The Lady Charger offense exploded for 11 runs on seven hits in the top of the first inning. Right fielder Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) brought home the first run of the game on a single up-the-middle. Four batters later, junior Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.) hit her first grand slam of the season to increase the lead to 5-0. Later, freshman Rajene Bowe (Ellendale, Md.) plated two runs on a double to right field and Fitzgerald added her second RBI of the inning with a single through the left side. A two out three-run double to right center field off the bat of senior Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) gavie DC the 11-0 lead.
The Eagles scored three runs in their first at-bat of the game and added three more in the fourth to make the score 11-6. DC got two runs back in the fifth inning on the RBI triple to right field from Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) and the run-scoring ground out to third base from Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, N.Y.) for the 13-6 lead. A Eagle run in the sixth and seventh inning gave Dominican the 13-8 win.
Fitzgerald recorded three hits and scored three runs.
First basemen Gillgian produced a team best four RBIs and Regan finished with three RBIs.
Shelby Smith (Valley Center, Calif.) picked up the win (2-3) in four innings of relief, allowing two runs on three hits and recording two strikeouts.
Game Two: Post led 2-0 after three innings in the second game, when the Lady Chargers scored three runs in their half of the fourth stanza on the run-scoring single to center field from Regan and the two-run double to center from designated player Alyssa Siess (Queens, N.Y.) to take a 3-2 edge.
Dominican scored a run in the fifth on a Eagle error for the 4-2 lead and eventual win.
Daniels finished with three hits, while catcher Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.) added two hits.
Junior Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) got the complete game victory (7-4), collecting five strikeouts, two runs and seven hits in seven innings of work.
The Lady Chargers are scheduled to host Concordia College this coming Wednesday, beginning at 2:30 pm on the DC Softball Field.
