SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY
Philadelphia, Pa. (4/21/18) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host Holy Family University in games played this afternoon. DC took the opener, 6-1, while the Tigers scored late to bring home a 2-0 victory in game two.

Philadelphia, Pa. (4/21/18) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host Holy Family University in games played this afternoon. DC took the opener, 6-1, while the Tigers scored late to bring home a 2-0 victory in game two.
With the split, Dominican is now 17-15 overall and 13-7 in the CACC.
Game One: In the opener, the Lady Chargers scored two runs in the second and third innings to take a 4-0 lead. Senior Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) was hit by-a-pitch with the bases loaded to bring home a run and Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, N.Y.) followed with a bases loaded walk for the 2-0 lead. In the third frame right fielder Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) produced a two-run single down the left field line to increase the lead to 4-0.
DC added a run in the fifth as Fitzgerald blasted a solo home run over the center field fence to take a 5-0 lead. A Lady Charger run in the seventh on the RBI double down the left field line by Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.) increased the lead to 7-0. The Tigers got on the scoreboard in their final at-bat on a run-scoring double to right center field.
Fitzgerald finished with three hits and three RBIs in the game, while Gilligan had two hits.
Senior Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) got the complete game victory (4-4), allowing one run on five hits and two strikeouts.
Game Two: The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when Holy Family struck for two runs on a solo home run and a Lady Charger error to take the 2-0 lead and eventual victory.
Junior Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) took the loss (10-7), allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and four strikeouts.
Dominican returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to St. Thomas Aquinas College.
