SOFTBALL EARNS NON-CONFERENCE SWEEP OVER UNIVERSITY OF BRIDGEPORT
Bridgeport, Conn. (4/9/19) The Dominican College softball team completed a sweep over the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport.

Bridgeport, Conn. (4/9/19) The Dominican College softball team completed a sweep over the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport. DC took game one by a score of 4-3 and followed up with a 5-2 win in game two.
The Lady Chargers improve to 14-15 overall on the season after the sweep. Bridgeport falls to 23-9 overall.
Game One: Shelby Smith (Valley Center, Calif.) pitched a strong 5.2 innings for the Lady Chargers and earned the win to improve her record to 6-3. Madeline Uschock (Greensburg, Pa.) earned her first save on the season in relief.
Amanda Staheli suffered the loss but pitched a strong full seven innings. Staheli recorded six strikeouts in the game.
The Purple Knights Jenna DiLorenzo recorded an RBI single in the first inning to open the scoring.
DC tied the game in the top half of the second inning on a sac fly by Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.). Rajene Bowe (Ellendale, Del.) gave DC the lead on a solo homer in the third inning and drove in her second RBI of the game with a sac fly in the sixth inning. Later in the sixth, Gilligan scored on an error and DC held a 4-1 lead.
The Purple Knights rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the deficit back to one. Uschock shut down the Purple Knights in the seventh inning to secure the game one victory.
Game Two: Madeline Uschock pitched all five innings in the game to earn the win to improve her record to 8-8 on the season and recorded six strikeouts. Ashley Eisnor took the loss and recorded three strikeouts.
The Purple Knights took the early first inning lead for the second straight game. DC scored two runs in the fourth inning and added three runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 5-1. Bridgeport added a run in the fifth inning but the game would end after five innings by a score of 5-2.
Rajene Bowe added two more hits and an RBI in the win. Alexandria Ledgerwood (Salem, Ore.) had a hit and a team-leading two RBI in the win. Shailei Kraft (Waverly, N.Y.) recorded an RBI single and Taylor Gilligan also had a hit.
Jenna DiLorenzo and Skylar Glaude drove in one RBI and one hit each in game two for the Purple Knights.
The Lady Chargers will travel to Wilmington University on Thursday, April 11th for a conference doubleheader with the Wildcats. Game one is scheduled for 2:30 and game two will follow at 4:30.
