Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. (12/15/18) The Lady Chargers were victorious over Mercy College on Saturday by a score of 74-70. DC improves their record to 4-5 overall after the non-conference win. The Mavericks drop to 3-7 overall after the loss.
The Lady Chargers opened the first quarter with an 8-0 run to get the game started. The Mavericks answered back and DC held a 17-16 lead heading into the second quarter.
The second quarter continued as close as the first with both teams playing a back and forth game. The Lady Chargers took a 33-31 lead into halftime.
Samantha McClutchy (Washington Township, N.J.) led the Lady Chargers with 16 points in the first half. Amber Brown led the Mavericks with 19 points in the first half
In the third quarter, DC opened up an eight-point lead over the Mavericks. The Mavericks cut the deficit back to one point, but the Lady Chargers were able to keep the lead and head to the fourth quarter with the score 51-48. Korina Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) added 8 points in the third quarter.
The Lady Chargers used a nine-point run to take a ten-point lead, their largest of the game. The Mavericks cut the deficit to two points but the Lady Chargers were able to hold onto the lead and close out the 74-70 win.
McClutchy led DC with 20 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Guerra added 19 points and recorded 8 rebounds for DC. Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) finished with 12 points while Ashley Merritt (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) scored 8 points and recorded 6 assists in the win.
The Lady Chargers, as a team, finished the game shooting 44.4% from the field and went 12 for 19 for 63.2% from the free throw line.
Amber Brown led all scorers with 34 points and also recorded 8 rebounds. Taysha Bender and Anna Zaborowska each finished the game with 10 points for the Mavericks.
The Lady Chargers will be back in action on Wednesday, December 19th when they travel to Felician University for a conference game with the Golden Falcons. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
