WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EDGED IN OT BY USCIENCES
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/2/19) The Dominican College women’s basketball team fell to the Devils of the University of the Sciences in overtime by a score of 71-66.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/2/19) The Dominican College women's basketball team fell to the Devils of the University of the Sciences in overtime by a score of 71-66. The Lady Chargers fall to 9-10 (7-3 CACC) with the loss. The Devils improve to 20-1 (11-1 CACC).
After the first quarter, the Devils held a 19-14 lead over the Lady Chargers. DC fell behind the Devils by 12 points and was able to finish the first half strong by cutting the deficit to single digits before the break.
Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) led DC in the opening half with seven points and four rebounds. Alpreshia Parker (Pocono Summit, Pa.) added six points while Ciera Rivera (Pomona, N.Y.) scored five.
Alex Thomas led the Devils with 10 points and four rebounds. Irisa Ye scored nine points and Jordan Vitelli scored seven points in the first half.
Dominican stormed back with a huge third quarter by outscoring the Devils 16-4. The big offensive quarter gave DC their first lead of the game since the opening minute of the first quarter.
The fourth quarter was a back and forth quarter in which the Devils tied the game with a minute to go but could not hit the game-winning jumper as time ran out sending the game into OT tied at 57-57.
In the OT period, the Devils hit back to back three-pointers to extend to a six-point lead. DC answered to cut the deficit back to one point. With less than a minute to go, the Devils held a two-point lead over the Lady Chargers.
USciences made big defensive stops towards the end of the game to secure the 71-66 overtime victory.
Gee led DC with 14 points and nine rebounds while Korina Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) contributed 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Rivera finished the game with 10 points and three rebounds.
Alpreshia Parker added nine points and Samantha McClutchy (Washington Township, N.J.) finished with eight points and six rebounds. Kyla Ramseur (Bloomfield, N.J.) added eight rebounds three assists and five points in the loss.
Alex Thomas led the Devils with 19 points and nine rebounds. Taylor Hamm and Irisa Ye each finished with 18 points. Jess Huber added 11 points in the win.
The Lady Chargers will be back in action on Tuesday, February 5th when they host the Cougars of Caldwell University for a 5:30 PM tip.
