Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/5/19) The Lady Chargers fell to the Cougars of Caldwell University by a score of 75-57. With the loss, the Lady Chargers fall to 9-11 (7-4 CACC) and the Cougars improved to 6-14 (6-7 CACC).
Both teams opened the game with a strong first quarter with DC outscoring the Cougars 22-20. The Cougars had a huge second quarter by outscoring the Lady Chargers 22-5 and went into halftime with a 42-27 lead.
Alessia Smaldone led the Cougars in the first half with 13 points and added five rebounds and four assists. Andie Lennon scored nine points. The Cougars shot 50.0% from the field in the opening half.
For DC, Samantha McClutchy (Washington Township, N.J.) led the way in the first half with eight points, three rebounds, and one assist.
DC cut the deficit to single digits in the third quarter, but the Cougars were able to sustain the lead going into the fourth quarter. The Cougars extended their lead to twenty in the fourth quarter and secured the 75-57 win over the Lady Chargers.
Lennon finished the game for the Cougars with 21 points, four steals, three assists, and three rebounds. Smaldone added 17 points, with six assists, and six rebounds. Tina Lebron finished the game with 14 points, three steals, two assists, and two rebounds.
For DC, Korina Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) led the team with 12 points. Alpreshia Parker (Pocono Summit, Pa.) added 11 points and six rebounds while McClutchy finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
Jasmine Gee (Bloomfield, N.J.) contributed seven rebounds for DC while Ashley Merritt (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) recorded seven assists.
The Lady Chargers will look to bounce back on this coming Thursday, February 7th when they travel to Wilmington University for a 6:00 PM tip-off with the Wildcats.
