LADY CHARGERS ECLIPSE 100 POINTS IN DOUBLE OT WIN OVER GOLDEY-BEACOM
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/16/19) The Dominican College women’s basketball team outlasted the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College in double overtime by a score of 100-97.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/16/19) The Dominican College women's basketball team outlasted the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College in double overtime by a score of 100-97. The Lady Chargers scored 100 points for the first time in a game this season and improved their record to 12-12 (10-5 CACC). The Lightning drop to 12-13 (8-8 CACC) on the season.
The Lightning held a 23-17 lead over DC after the first quarter. Dominican answered with a strong second quarter and held a two-point lead heading into halftime.
Ciera Rivera (Pomona, N.Y.) led DC in the first half with 11 points and added three rebounds and two assists. Samantha McClutchy (Washington Township, N.J.) led DC in rebounds in the opening half with six.
Sarah Round led all scorers in the first half with 15 points. Amanda McGrogan and Alanna Speaks each scored eight points in the first half for GBC.
The Lightning opened the second half with an 11-2 run and held a five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, GBC held their largest lead of the game with just over eight minutes remaining.
The Lady Chargers came charging back to tie the Lightning at 78-78 with less than a minute to play. The game remained tied at 78 all and went to overtime.
In the first OT period, both teams went back and forth. With the game tied Korina Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) recorded a steal as time ran out to send the game to double OT.
DC extended out to a five-point lead to open the scoring in the second overtime period. The Lightning took a one-point lead with less than a minute to play but Guerra hit a lay-up to put DC back on top. The Lady Chargers never lost the lead again and closed out the 100-97 victory.
Sarah Round finished the game with a team-leading 27 points for GBC and recorded five rebounds and five assists. McGrogan finished the game with 25 points while Alanna Speaks scored 18 points and recorded a game-high 19 rebounds, nine were recorded as offensive rebounds.
Korina Guerra led DC with 20 points and added eight rebounds and two assists. Kyla Ramseur (Bloomfield, N.J.) scored 19 points and added eight assists, five rebounds, and two steals. Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) scored 17 points and recorded five rebounds. Ciera Rivera finished the game with 15 points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists. McClutchy pulled down eight rebounds and added six points in the win.
The Lady Chargers will be back in action this coming Tuesday, February 19th when they travel to Bloomfield College for a conference game with the Bears. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
