YELLOW JACKETS TOP WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Springfield, Mass. (3/16/19) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team fell to the Yellow Jackets of American International College (AIC) by a score of 16-8. The Lady Chargers fall to 0-3 overall on the season. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improved to 2-5 overall.
The Yellow Jackets struck first but DC was able to tie the game at 1-1 early on in the first half. The Yellow Jackets scored three straight goals to extend their lead out to 4-1.
The Lady Chargers ended the run to cut the first half deficit to 4-2. Each team scored two more goals before the end of the first half and the Yellow Jackets held a 6-4 lead at halftime.
The Yellow Jackets outscored the Lady Chargers in the second half 10-4. AIC used two separate four-goal runs to help extend their lead over DC and eventually secured the 16-8 victory.
Melissa Peysson (East Meadow, N.Y.) and Jenna Kelleher (Holbrook, N.Y.) led the Lady Chargers with three goals each in the game. Alayna Heegan (North Babylon, N.Y.) added two goals for DC. Jenna Fox (Stony Point, N.Y.) and Abbigail Dufort (Schenectady, N.Y.) each added an assist.
Heegan finished the game with a team-leading eight shots. Kelleher added six shots and Peysson took four shots. Rebecca Nutting (Marcellus, N.Y.) made 14 saves in goal for the Lady Chargers.
Mary Bates led the Yellow Jackets with eight goals and added an assist in the win. Mikayla Demanche scored four goals. Dimanche and Bates each led AIC in shots with 13.
Sam Giordano, Emilee Giacondino, Molly Leavitt, and Brittany Hutchinson each added one goal in the win for AIC. Chelsea Davis earned her second win of the season in goal for the Yellow Jackets and finished the game with nine saves.
The Lady Chargers will be back in action on Thursday, March 21st when they return home to host the University of Bridgeport at 4:00 PM.
