VOLLEYBALL VICTORIOUS OVER BEARS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/11/18) The Dominican College women's volleyball team defeated the visiting Bears of Bloomfield College, 3-2 (21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 24-26, 15-12) in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match held on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/11/18) The Dominican College women's volleyball team defeated the visiting Bears of Bloomfield College, 3-2 (21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 24-26, 15-12) in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match held on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
With the win, Dominican improves to 1-8 overall and 1-1 in CACC play, while the Bears fall to 0-11 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Set 1: While DC had more kills than their opponents, 12-10, the Bears opened the match with the 25-21 win.
Set 2: DC jumped out to a 10-5 lead but a 10-4 Bear run tied the set at 14-all. With the scored tied at 23-23, back-to-back kills from freshman Emmalyn LaPier (Endicott, N.Y.) and junior Deanna Knopf (Hauppauge, N.Y.) secured a 25-23 win.
Set 3: Dominican once again jumped out to a lead, 11-4, but the Bears once again fought back and later tied the set at 20-20. Freshman Jaid Harrell (Kingston, N.Y.) recorded a kill to put the team at set point and a service ace from Knopf put DC ahead 2-1 in the match with the 25-23 win.
Set 4: The set was tied at 24-all when a BC kill from Danielle Quintanar and a DC attack error forced the deciding fifth set as Bloomfield took the set 26-24.
Set 5: The Bears went up 6-2, but a Dominican 8-2 run turned the tide and put DC ahead 10-8. A Bear service error put Dominican at match point, 14-10, but Bloomfield tallied two quick points to make the score 14-12. DC clinched the match victory as LaPier recorded the match-winning kill to give Dominican the 15-12 set five win and 3-2 match victory.
LaPier finished the match with a collegiate career high of 18 kills and team high of 25 defensive digs. Knopf recorded 12 kills and 21 digs, while Natalia Perez (Prosper, Texas) added 20 defensive digs.
Freshman Lily Ainsworth (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added a career high 36 assists and had 11 digs, along with Sara Hayward (Sloatsburg, N.Y.).
DC returns to action on Friday night when they host Nyack College in a CACC match to be held on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
