VOLLEYBALL UPENDS CLIPPERS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/19/18) The Dominican College women's volleyball team upended the visiting Clippers of Concordia College, 3-1, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/19/18) The Dominican College women's volleyball team upended the visiting Clippers of Concordia College, 3-1, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
Dominican (2-11, 2-3) won the first two sets by the scores of 25-21 and 25-18, while Concordia took set three 22-25. DC clinched the match with a 25-14 set four win.
Set One: The host trailed 9-3 in the opening set and later were down 15-11 when DC charged back with five straight points, all served by freshman Lily Ainsworth (Colorado Springs, Colo.), to gain a 16-15 edge. Later seven consecutive DC points built up a 23-16 advantage and a kill from junior Gabrielle Napoleon (Springfield, Pa.) ended the set and give Dominican the 25-21 win.
Set Two: Dominican opened the set with the first five points, but the Clippers would rally and later tie the set at 18-all. A Malia Robinson (Jersey City, N.J.) kill returned serve to DC and Mykalee Chambers (Bronx, N.Y.) served six points to end a 7-0 run and give the Chargers the 25-18 win and 2-0 match victory.
Set Three: An 8-0 run put Concordia ahead 11-3 in the set, but Dominican would fight back and tie the set at 13-13. Five consecutive points from the Clippers, which included three service aces in a row, rebuilt an 18-14 lead and they went on to the 25-22 win to force a fourth set.
Set Four: The set was tied at 9-9 when DC scored six unanswered points to go ahead 15-9 and would close out the match on a 7-0 run, ended by a block assist from Ainsworth and Napoleon to secure a 25-14 win and 3-1 match victory.
Robinson led all attackers with a career high 16 kills and a .378 attack percentage.
Freshman Emmalyn LaPier (Endicott, N.Y.) added 14 kills and a team high 16 digs, while Deanna Knopf (Hauppauge, N.Y.) contributed 15 digs and nine kills.
Setter Ainsworth tied her career high with 36 assists and senior libero Natalia Perez (Prosper, Texas) accumulated 15 digs.
DC wil travel to conference opponent, Jefferson, this coming Saturday.
