WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TOPS CALDWELL UNIVERSITY

(10/13/18) The Dominican College women's volleyball team hung on for a 3-2 victory over the visiting Cougars of Caldwell University in a match played this afternoon on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center. DC won the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 26-24, while the Cougars won the next two by scores of 25-15 and 25-13. Dominican rallied in the decisive fifth set for the 16-14 win and 3-2 match victory.

Dominican rallied in the decisive fifth set for the 16-14 win and 3-2 match victory.
Junior outside hitter Deanna Knopf (Hauppauge, N.Y.) recorded a season high 19 kills, a .545 attack percentage and added nine digs in the victory.
Malia Robinson (Jersey City, N.J.) tallied 11 kills and eight digs, while Natalia Perez (Prosper, Texas) contributed nine digs.
Freshman setter Lily Ainsworth (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had a team high 26 assists and Essence Boyd (Peekskill, N.Y.) had 16 assists and five digs.
With the win, Dominican improves to 3-18 overall and 3-10 in conference play.
Set One: Caldwell had a 23-22 edge when a service error re-tied the set at 23-all. Consecutive block assists from Jaid Harrell (Kingston, N.Y.) and Nia Reeves (Union City, N.J.) lifted DC to the 25-23 win.
Set Two: Dominican trailed 3-1 when a 8-1 charge put the Chargers ahead 9-4. The Cougars would rally twice and with the score 24-24, a kill from Boyd and a attack error would give the CHargers the 26-24 win and 2-0 match lead.
Set Five: In the decisive set, Caldwell led 13-7 when five consecutive Charger points brought them within a point, 13-12. CU recorded a kill to put them at match point, but a kill from Robinson and a service ace from Perez knotted the set at 14-all. A kill from Robinson put DC at match point and following a Caldwell timeout an attack error gave Dominican the 16-14 win and 3-2 match victory.
Dominican will travel to CACC foe Bloomfield College this coming Wednesday night.
