New Haven, Conn. (9/6/19) The Dominican College women's volleyball team lost two matches on opening day of the 2019 season at the Southern Connecticut State University Tri-Match held at Pelz Gymnasium.

Following the losses, the team is now 0-2 on the season.

Match One:  In the opener against the hosts, Dominican took the opening set, 25-22 behind a team total of nine kills and two errors for a .368 attack percentage.  The first set was tied at 22-all when Malia Robinson (Jersey City, N.J.) served three straight points which included a service ace and a set ending kill from senior Deanna Knopf (Hauppauge, N.Y.) to take a 1-0 match lead.

The Owls rallied to win the next three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-13, and 25-16 for the 3-1 match win.

Senior Mykalee Chambers (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Chargers with seven kills.

Sara Hayward (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) had a team high 13 assists, while freshman Dawn Brassow (Madison, Ohio) had eight defensive digs.

Match Two: The Knights won in three sets after winning the first two by scores of 25-13 and 25-21.  QC closed out the match with a 27-25 in the decisive set.

Knopf had a match high eight kills and added 10 digs, while Chambers posted six kills and a .500 attack percentage.

Outside hitter Emmalyn LaPier (Endicott, N.Y.) had five kills.

Hayward had eight assists with Brassow adding a match high 13 digs.

Dominican will travel to Mercy College this coming Tuesday night.
