SARMIENTO RECORDS FOUR HITS IN VICTORY OVER POST UNIVERSITY
Waterbury, Conn. (4/5/22) Third basemen Ethan Sarmiento (Warwick, N.Y.) went 4-4 with two runs scored as the Dominican College Baseball team defeated the Eagles of Post University, 13-3, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played at Municipal Stadium.

With the win, Dominican improves to 9-18 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
The Chargers scored six runs on six hits and two errors to jump out to the 6-0 advantage after the top of the first inning. Catcher Bobby Garbuio (Chappaqua, N.Y.) got the scoring going with a two out three-run homer and later a Post error allowed two runs to score. Second basemen and CACC Rookie of the Week, Bryant Bassett (Bronx, N.Y.), hit an RBI single to left field.
In the top of the second, DC added four more runs to increase their lead to 10-1. Designated Hitter Benjamin Avila (Walden, N.Y.) delivered a single to center field to plate a run and Garbuio followed with a two-run triple to left field. An RBI single to right field off the bat of Sarmiento rounded out the scoring in the inning.
Leading 10-3 after four innings of play, Dominican added two runs in the fifth on the two-run single to right field by first basemen Tyler Patterson (East Meadow, N.Y.) and one in the sixth on the solo home run by Shane Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) for the eventual 13-3 win.
Garbuio recorded a career high five RBI, to go along with two hits and two runs, while Hewlette, Avila and Richard Paulino (San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic) produced two hits a-piece and scored two runs in the win.
Jaden Diaz-Lambert (Erial, N.J.) went the distance to improve to 3-1 on the season, allowing three runs on three hits and recording a season high 11 strikeouts.
The Chargers are scheduled to face off against St. Thomas Aquinas College this coming Thursday.
