RALLY FALL SHORTS AS SETTERS DEFEAT CHARGERS
Pleasantville, N.Y. (3/21/23) The Dominican University New York baseball squad rallied from an early 5-0 deficit, but ultimately fell to the Setters of Pace University, 10-9, in non-conference action at Finnerty Field.
Pleasantville, N.Y. (3/21/23) The Dominican University New York baseball squad rallied from an early 5-0 deficit, but ultimately fell to the Setters of Pace University, 10-9, in non-conference action at Finnerty Field.
Pace led 5-0 through four innings of play, when Dominican (1-17) scored three runs in the top of the fifth on the three-run blast to left field off the bat of Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.).
The Chargers added five more runs in the eighth as Peter Kiefer (Waterford, Conn.) scored on a throwing error and two batters later Phil Whitney (Newark, N.J.) followed with a two-run double to right center. Yorby Vilomar (Bronx, N.Y.) then delivered a run-scoring single up-the middle and Alexander Reyes (Bronx, N.Y.) produced an RBI double to left field to claim an 8-5 advantage.
The Setters countered in the bottom of the eighth with five runs to re-build a 10-8 lead. Dominican added a run in the ninth on an RBI groundout by Whitney for the 10-9 final.
Richman led Dominican with three RBI.
Kiefer, Ty Gilligan (Ringwood, N.J.) and Jean Nunez (New York, N.Y.) all had two hits in the loss.
Reliefer Robert Liriano (Haverstraw, N.Y.) suffered the loss.
Dominican returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on St. Thomas Aquinas College.
