New Haven, Conn. (1/29/24) Post University and Goldey-Beacom College on Monday were tabbed first in their respective divisions of the 2024 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Post was tops in the North with 56 points and six first-place votes, while the Lightning were first in the South with 44 points and six first-place nods. The voting for the poll was conducted by the league's 11 head coaches in the sport.
Post narrowly edged out defending CACC Champion Felician University by a point as the Golden Falcons earned 55 points and five first-place votes in the voting. Felician defeated Post in the final to earn last year's conference crown. Dominican University rounded out the top three in the North with 41 points. Post won last season's North Division crown and Dominican claimed the league championship back in the 2021 campaign.
GBC advanced to last season's CACC four-team double-elimination tournament for the first time in program history and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament. The Lightning, like the Eagles, had a narrow edge in earning the top spot in their respective division. GBC was two points ahead of second-place Wilmington University, which had 42 points and three first-place votes. Thomas Jefferson University completed the top three in the South with 37 points and two first-place nods. WilmU won the CACC South Division last season.
The 2024 CACC Baseball season gets underway in early February with several teams in non-conference action down South. The regular season will be a buildup to the 2024 CACC Baseball Championship, which will be held May 3-4 and 9-11. The top-three teams from each division will earn a spot in the postseason with the No. 1 seed from each division earning a bye to the double-elimination tournament from the 9th to 11th at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Conn. The No. 2 and 3 seeds from each division will face each other in a best-of-three first-round series at the sites of the highest seeds on the 3rd and 4th.
